Our History
It was in the late summer of 2004 that a group of believers met for the purpose of prayer and Bible study. After a few months, this group believed the Lord was leading them to establish a church true to the fundamentals of the faith, using traditional music. Believing in faithfulness to God’s Word in its government and practices, the decision was made to seek clear indication that such pursuit was indeed of God. After a few weeks of meeting in a home in the Clemmons area, there came an opportunity to use the small facilities of West Salem Civic Club just off of Peter’s Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.
It was clear from this beginning that God was honoring their convictions. Outgrowing this small facility, the group sought to find a place that could be rented or purchased for their use. In the providence of God, they discovered that the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Clemmons was selling their facility. The asking price seemed to be beyond the ability of such a small congregation to handle. After much prayer to the Lord, inquiry was made for financing at virtually all local banking institutions for a loan covering the negotiated price which was substantial. This was done before the group organized into a fundamental Baptist church. One bank believed in them enough to help them consummate the transaction. To this group, it was a miracle! Incidentally, the sale included all furniture and equipment in the church facility. Occupancy of the building began the Sunday after Easter in 2005. Since that time the church has added a mobile unit for classroom space, a storage building, and has made many improvements to the building and grounds.
On June 5, 2005, after choosing the name West Haven Baptist Church, the church was fully organized and chartered with 46 members. Retired pastor, N.A. Thompson, III, was chosen to lead the congregation on an interim basis.
In its first 10 years, WHBC had two other pastors. When these men were unable to continue, Pastor Thompson again served as interim, encouraging the church in the prayerful search for a new pastor. In 2016, God directed our church to Pastor Ed Kuhar, and him to us. About Pastor Kuhar.
